Bulgaria Rivals with Spain and Portugal in Golf Tourism In Near Future
At the International exhibition for golf tourism - International golf travel market IGTM - 2006 in Marbeya, Rumen Todorov defined the tendecies and pointed golf resorts and destinations for 2007.

GOLF TOURISM GIVES AN ACCOUNT OF 10% GROWTH, AFFIRMS NEW DESTINATIONS. Bulgaria will rival Spain and Portugal in golf tourism in the near future, according to the catalog of the British Association of Tour Operators for 2007.

The largest international exhibition for golf tourism - IGTM was held in the resort Marbeya, Spain, at the end of 2006. The initiators of Reed Travel Exhibitions are the same who organize the London tourist market and more than 10 other major tourist events worldwide. Over 1000 participants from 50 countries reported the results and trends for 2006 and defined the best golf resorts and golf destinations for 2007. The exhibition is done under the custody of the International Association of golf tour operators - IAGTO /International Association of Golf Travel Operators/. The members of IAGTO hold almost 80 percent of golf tourism sales in the world.

In this important golf tourism forum Bulgaria presented a third time participation of a representative of International College Albena, Dobrich. Initiator accept that countries with future development of golf tourism take part in IGTM. Dobruzha sea coast tends to become basic place for golf tourism in Bulgaria in the comin years, with a minimum of 3 world-class golf courses. International College students already have experience in attendance to elite tourists in Europe, America and the Caribbean islands (including at golf courses) and will be able to work in golf complexes at the Black sea coast.

Some results of the Bulgarian participation in the exhibition for golf tourism

Bulgaria is considered as a future golf destination in Southeast Europe. Increased interest from foreign companies about building golf complexes in Bulgaria. Bulgaria takes part in the World Amateur Golf Players Tournament in 2006 under the patronage of Arnold Palmer in South Africa in November 2006. For the first time Bulgaria is presented in the Golf Yearbook for 2007 of the Association of British Travel Agencies - ABTA.

GOLF TOURISM 2006 - facts and figures Worldwide golfers are over 50 million and half of them are from the U.S. In general, golf - sports, tourism, advertising, manufacturing, real estate - generates annually in the industry about $60 billion. "Golfer" is considered to be every person over 12 years, who plays golf at least 8 times a year. The average golfer is in his forties, has an annual income over 50 thousand euro and plays golf 20 times a year. In 2006 all aver the world, exclusively for golf vacations(traveling, accommodation, food, golf games) is expected to be spend over 20 billion euro. Including the extra costs over golf vacations, equipment and estates at or near golf resorts, the amount reaches 50 billion euro per year. Golf tourism directly in Europe this year will gain a profit of over 2 billion euro. The growth of golf tourism in 2006 compared to that in 2005 is expected at the rate of 10%.

Trends:

Increase of the number of golf tourists and golf vacations. Search of new golf destinations. Expansion of the social layer of playing and traveling golfers. Building of new golf resorts and expansion of already existing - Turkey, Croatia, Mexico, China,etc. Increase of golf travels, purchased and paid online. Consolidation of the golf tourism industry - up to 3% increase of prices of the golf courses and golf resorts for tour operators next year; no more than a 20% difference between prices offered by local and foreign tour operators of golf courses and resorts.

GOLF TOURISM IN EUROPE - OVER 2 BILLION EURO IN 2006

Spain remains the main destination for golf tourism. Only Andalusia region /where there are 104 golf courses/ is visited by a million golf tourists every year. The incomes from golf tourism in Spain reach 1 billion euro. 90% of the golf tourists come from Britain and Germany and spend an average 140 euro per day. Holidays last 7 to 9 days. Golf is being played 4-5 times during the holiday. Every year in Spain there over 800 million euro spent for houses at or near golf courses. Buyers are mainly British. Portugal rivals Spain with its beautiful courses, similar climate and low prices.

GOLF PROJECTS IN BULGARIA - WITH WORLD-CLASS ADVANTAGES

The golf courses, which are presently being built in Bulgaria near Balchik, Kavarna, Dolna Banya, Razlog and Bansko, are designed by world-class designers. The three golfers and designers are captains of the mixed teams in Europe, USA and the rest of the world. Yan Usnam is the captain of Europe's golf team, which won the 2006 World Cup Ryder, and is also a six times winner of the Cup. Jack Niklaus and Garry Player are captains of the teams of USA and The Rest of the World for The Cup of the President. The climate in Bulgaria implies year-round tourism. In Bulgaria golf can be played actively over 200 days every year. In certain areas of the country golf can be played even more than 300 a year. The high golf season in Bulgaria may be in June-July-August-September,when it's low season in Spain, Portugal and Cyprus (somewhat Greece and Turkey)because of the high temperatures and the condition of the golf areas there. It presents Bulgaria as a year-round tourist destination and a crossroads of ancient cultures and civilizations. The numerous springs, the rich variety of flora and fauna and the natural beauty of the country are pointed in the catalog. The catalog notes the nine subjects in the list of UNESCO, part of the World Culture-historical heritage. Specific attention is paid to the Thracian tombs and the Rila Monastery. The Golf Annual recognizes the rapid development of Bulgaria's Black sea resorts, which rival the Mediterranean resorts with their golf projects. The edition tells about the designers and the presently constructed golf courses in Bulgaria. The catalogue highlights the objective of Bulgaria to compete with Spain and Portugal as a future major golf destination. At the International exhibition of golf tourism in Marbeya, Spain, were also announced the best golf resorts and destinations of 2007.

Algarve, Portugal, became Golf Resort of 2007 for Europe. In North America the prize took Florida, USA. In the Rest of The World won Sandy Lane resort in Barbados. At the golf destinations the prize of "undiscovered" destination became the Czech Republic. South Africa won as a Golf Destination in Africa and the Middle East. China won for the region of Asia and Australia. As a golf destination of North America won British Columbia, Canada. Mexico took the prize for Latin America and the Caribbean Islands. Golf Destination of the World 2007 was announced to be the golf coast of Lisbon.
