Estate Company Turns Bulgaria into a Competitive Golf Destination
We are attracting solvent tourists. Single-stock company "Golf Razvitie", with one hundred percent estate participation in the capital, will work for the cause of turning Bulgaria into a competitive golf destination, attractive for solvent tourist. This is what the government decided yesterday. The company, which is to be formed will be engaged in the design, construction, exploitation and management of golf facilities of courses, equipment, resorts. Its capital will be 9 183 000 leva, devided into 9183 registered shares, each one worth 1000 leva. As a non-monetary contribution to the company's capital will be 12 landed estates - private state property. So far they are managed by the State Forestry Agency as part of the State Game-breeding Enterpise "Balchik". They are worth 9 133 000 leva. The monetary contribution of 50 000 leva will be provided using a restructuring of the expenses over the budget of the Ministry of Regional Development and Building for 2008. The building of golf cources as alternative of the overbuilding and high building of Black-sea and mountain resorts, will be stimulated. This will make it possible to prolong the tourist season of the Black sea region up to 9 months, and the tourist season in the mountain resorts will be all-year round using skis-golf destinations such as those in Austria and Switzerland.

Two of the municipalities, which are emerge as a major golf destination in Dobrich region, are Balchik and Kavarna. Near Beliya Grad in "Tabiyata" countryside are located the golf courses "Black Sea Rama" and "Lighthouse". "Black Sea Rama" starts functioning this year. In Kavarna, on the other hand, is located "Thracian Cliffs" golf course.

I welcome the idea of creating a state company to work for the cause of Bulgaria becoming an attractive golf destination. Whether the support of this company will be strictly logistic or directly financial towards such facilities, it will bring nothing but benefits to the particular municipality, said the Mayer of Kavarna Tsonko Tsonev. They will pay taxes, fees and open work places, and these are only advantages for a region. It seems like the government has also decided to invest in attractive lands. I am not completely familiar with the idea behind this company, but I think it will complete our activity in this area, commented yesterday for DT the Deputy Mayer of Balchik, Nikolay Angelov. He claimed Balchik continued to develop as a golf destination. Up till now there have been two more investment intentions declared about constructing golf complexes in the municipality.

According to people, familiar with this business, the conditions in Bulgaria give an opportunity to create functional cources with affordable prices. This is a result of the cheaper maintenance. The fee in Bulgaria is around 35 leva for 18 holes on weekdays, 50 leva in the weekend. Outside Bulgaria the fee is at least 150 euro.

For people under 18 the games and trainings of "Air Sofia" courses are for free. The year subscription is 1450 - 1700 leva. In Japan, where golf is a mania, a year subscription costs 150 000 euro and in the US, where this sport is commercial and available, the subscription fee is $3000-3500 per year. It was announced some days ago, that finally the tourists business has a national strategy about its own development. It was created by the initiative of the Tourism Agency. The lack of clarity about the direction of the branch development was one of the explanations given from representatives of the tourist industry to the question as to why Bulgaria is becoming a cheap destination for mass low-budget travels.
Until now, tourism in Bulgaria was concentrated around mass sea-coast vacations, which are sold cheaply on the western market. About 60% of the profit comes exactly from the sale of this product. According to the strategy, if tourism profit for 2007 is 2.4 billion euro, in 2013 they have to become triple and reach 6 billion leva. The amount of money a tourist spends in Bulgaria also has to increase, and if now it's an average 43 euro per day, after 6 years it has to reach 90 euro per day. "Sea tourism still remains basic for the industry" claim people from the business.
